Shoulder pain in aerial and pole
What it usually is
The shoulder is the joint this sport asks the most of, and it is the one I see most. Most of what comes through is load, not damage: the tissue is being asked for more than it currently tolerates, in positions that are near the end of its range.
What an assessment looks at
What the shoulder can do on its own. What it can do under load. What the rest of you is doing while it works, because a shoulder rarely fails alone.
What you can usually keep doing
More than you think, and rarely nothing. The aim is to find the version of your training that does not make it worse, and then to make that version bigger.
How long it usually takes
It varies with how long it has been going on and how much you are willing to change in the short term. It is anything from a one-off drop in to a few weeks, depending on what you are working towards.
