Getting back on the apparatus after time away

However long it has been, and whatever stopped you, there is a route back that does not start in a beginners’ class and does not end in the same injury.

The pathway

Four phases, in order

  1. 01

    Where you are now

Assessed honestly, on your apparatus if we can get to one. Not where you were, and not where you think you should be.
  2. 02

    Capacity

Grip and upper limb first, because it is the first thing to go and the first thing to fail when you get back on.
  3. 03

    Control and load tolerance

The part everyone skips. Being strong enough is not the same as being able to hold a shape under fatigue.
  4. 04

    Skill-specific return

Back to the move you stopped at, in steps, with the last step being the whole thing.

Three things people ask

What we measure

So you can see progress rather than being told you are progressing.

Honest on time

A range, and the reasons it varies. A refusal to estimate reads as evasion and helps nobody.

The first appointment

It is step one of the return, not a gate you have to pass. You do not need to be ready to come.

There is no download here, on purpose. People stop for very different reasons, surgery, travel, pregnancy, illness, and one document would fit none of them properly. Ask instead and you will get an answer about your own break.
